The Intro 2 Kitesurfing is a combination of a Ground School and a Water Session.

The Ground School is designed to introduce and build your kite skills on land. You need to have basic knowledge of flying a kite and the safety procedures before you enter the water. The Ground School is usually 2-Hours long and you will be paired with another beginner.

(Ground School Location depends on the weather, usually Emeryville Marina Park or Berkely's Ceasar Chavez Park)

Once you have completed the Ground School, you will be ready for a Water Session! During this session, you will be controlling a full-powered kite in the Bay. Depending on your comfort and skill level, we may bring a twin-tip board for you to try. Some of our clients can experience a waterstart on their first session!!

• Maximum participants - 2 for Ground School / 1 for Water Session
• Experience Level - "Never-Ever" Beginner
• Session Time - 4 Hours (usually spread out in 2 Days, but can be completed in one)

From our experience, with about 10-hours of kiteboarding lessons, an average person usually will have developed the basic skills to kiteboard on their own, at least in an easy location.

These hours usually are done in about 5 days.

This is 6 hours of kiteboarding sessions! These hours can be completed in 2 to 3 days. At the end of these hours, you will have a good kiteboarding foundation.

The sport can take many hours to learn. We have discovered, it can take anywhere from 6 to 20 hours to learn this amazing sport. Some people have more natural skill than others and will learn faster. Especially if they practice other watersports.

This package is good for those that have a lot of board-skills. You will learn how to ride, but you might need some more time on the water to become independent.

Two Different Bridle Configurations

Depending on the size of Rally GT V2, Slingshot has equipped them with different bridle configurations. Larger kites fly differently than smaller kites. So they should have a different bridle setup.

The Smaller sizes (5m, 6m, and 7m) have a 4-Point IRS Bridle. This IRS system features a bungee line on the lowest leading edge connection that creates a stable and smooth kite. Many smaller kites from other brands are twitchy and "temperamental".

The V1 Sentry control system from Slingshot is a nice and clean control system. The Click-in-Loop is a time saver when you want to reset and reride your control system and the extra-long trim is great for all riders, even for fun-sized riders!
The auto-swivel is a system that is nice to have, but we feel that it is not necessary when you ride. One drawback is that you have to attach your center lines perfectly on your kite so that the swivel works and untwists your lines. Manual swivels don't have to worry about this. You can spin your bar to untwist your lines on demand.

How to arrive at SPI

South Padre Island is located in the southernmost part of Texas. The nearest airport to fly into will be Brownsville/South Padre Island International Airport ( BRO ).

An average price of a round-trip flight from SFO is $300 to $600. This depends on the time of the year that you will like to join us.

United Airlines and American Airlines have flights to BRO.

Once you arrive, we can arrange for you to be picked up at the airport. There is a 30 to 50 min drive to SPI.

What do you need to bring

• Personal Wetsuit (We suggest a 4/3 or, for the months of Dec and Jan, 5/4 wetsuit)

• Personal Harness will be a plus
• Warm clothes (expect the weather to be around 50 to 70 degrees)
• Sunglasses, Hat, Sunscreen, and reusable water bottle

If you don't have any of this equipment when you arrive. We can visit an SPI Kiteboarding shop to properly equip you.

No Wind Activities

Sometimes mother nature doesn’t want to cooperate. It's the nature of kiteboarding. Luckily we have some activities that we can do without the wind.

• Visit the Sea Turtle INC rehabilitation center

• Technical kiteboarding classroom work. (Kite repairs, bar tuning, rules of the road, board shapes, and kite shapes, etc…)
• Board skills - (twin-tip, strapless surfboard, foils)

COVID-19 

This virus has really affected us in ways that were not predicted. There are procedures that we will follow to reduce the risk of infection and the spread of the virus.

• Our Kite Retreats have partnered with Leaves of the Apothecary. They are providing us with natural hand sanitizers and wellness products.
• We are only having a maximum of 2 - 4 guests in our Retreats.  (We will not have large camps of more than 5 people. Sorry!)
• We will be cleaning all shared equipment. 
• If you have come in contact with someone who was sick, or if you feel like you are sick or going to become sick, we ask you to do the right thing and inform us. We will cancel your stay and issue you a refund. Please take care of yourself and be healthy.
• We are unable to house people experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, or people with conditions that put them at risk of severe illness.

The Taster will give you a taste of the sport. You will learn about the gear and fly a small power kite on land. This course was designed to be taken with other people, so bring your friend!!
